Leslie’s Clarinet Courses
Leslie will be holding regular clarinet courses and classes in his studio for groups or individuals
Whether you wish to play quartets, trios, duets or clarinet and piano or a combination of all the above Leslie can tailor the course to suit – weekdays or weekends according to your preference.
Courses begin at £275 for a non residential weekend: Friday evening to Sunday late afternoon. Alternatively weekdays can be arranged.
Four players maximum in any course so plenty of personal attention from Les.
There is an abundance of nearby hotels but accommodation can be arranged on site for up to two single people or two couples at an extra charge of £35 per room per night which is less than the normal rate for local hotels.
Local hotel prices vary but if booked in advance special rates may be negotiable. Monmouth where Leslie lives and gives the classes is a beautiful town in the outstanding area of natural beauty – the Wye Valley
below – the beautiful 13th century gated bridge, formerly the old town gaol
Leslie’s home is actually on the famous Offa’s Dyke path. There are many beautiful walks and places to visit. Leslie’s beautiful garden houses a Jacuzzi in its own building which is available for course members to use after the days activities *.(*some simple health and safety regulations will apply to use of the Jacuzzi)
The classes will be informal, friendly and will cater for most levels of player from about grade 5 upwards. Every effort will be made to match groups of players in a uniform standard so there is never a feeling of being “out of one’s depth”
This from an adult learner (aged 66) of clarinet of about grade 5/6 standard who drove the 5-6 hours from Durham for an individual residential weekend : Dear Les, Thank you again for a very enjoyable weekend, for your invaluable teaching (and patience). The intensity of the sessions was just right to drill down the correct method into a rusty old brain, now I need to work on re-training, focusing on all the things you pointed out and taught me. Thank you both for your hospitality and a big thank you to Chris for her hard work and lovely cooking. I look forward to reconnecting with you again in due course, Many thanks and best wishes Sam (Durham)
From Les: We foccussed on improving tone and sight reading plus breath support and air delivery along with reed adjusting, and articulation but still had time to enjoy the garden and jacuzzi and a little sight seeing and a local riverside pub!!
During the course attention will be given to ensemble, performance, presentation, performance – “nerves”, sound production, articulation, reed adjustments plus basic maintenance and repairs
Clarinet ensemble and unaccompanied classes £275 per player up to four maximum includes meals and drinks plus free use of Jacuzzi*.
If a pianist is required : provided there are four players using this service the total cost will be £350 per player per weekend. If two days of piano accompaniment is required an additional cost will apply pro rata to be agreed with the players by negotiation.
These courses guarantee a truly personal service and attention to detail and Leslie personally will give his full attention to every course member who signs up to a course. Players will receive light meals and refreshments during the day an evening meal and if weather permits an evening barbecue or similar. Vegetarians/Vegans can be catered for. Wine/soft drinks included.
If you wish to have an individual “solo” weekend Friday through to late Sunday afternoon
(or a pre – arranged weekday course) and get total exclusive attention from Leslie the cost would be: for a residential course without piano accompaniment: £475 * inclusive of room, meals and drinks. (* pianist can be hired on a pro rata basis at £150 extra per three hour session.)
For details and bookings please contact Leslie either by email or phone from the Contact page.
